DCC transport through the ages themed “Share the Road” parade – November 10

Janice has been talking to one of the organisers of this Share the Road parade the DCC is running and they are very keen to have some Vespas. They need to know numbers though so can you let Janice know if you can come by Wednesday 23rd? Looks like it could be a bit of fun and also a chance to raise our profile a little bit. See below:

“The Dunedin City Council is launching its new road safety campaign with a Share the Road parade on Sunday, November 10, from 3  – 5 pm.

We are working on a Transport Though the Ages theme and I would love it if you could join the parade. The idea of the parade is to show that there is a spectrum of road users ranging from pedestrians, through horses, cyclists and mobility scooter users to cars, heavy haulage, buses and service vehicles such as ambulances. We are also attempting to give some historical context to how road use has developed and changed over the centuries.

The parade will start from outside the dental school (Great King Street) and move into Frederick Street and along George Street to the Octagon. A Master of Ceremonies will  give a commentary as the various groups arrive in the Octagon.

I do hope you will be able to join us on November 10.”

Run to Lawrence, 11 am Saturday 19th October

The weather’s looking good, and Janice is keen to test out her newly run in scooter so how about a run to Lawrence and back this Saturday? Note the early start time, that way we can get there for lunch. We thought maybe down to Waihola via Brighton, then the main road to Milton and through the gorge to Lawrence.

Run to Karitane Saturday 5th of October

It’s been a while and the weather is looking pretty good so I suggest we take a run up the coast to Karitane, meeting at the Chinese gardens at 1pm. See you there!

Sunday ride to Albatrosses

Tomorrow August 25th at 2pm. Meet our new member Steve and his PX. Chinese gardens to albatrosses and back.

Ride this Saturday 20th July

Sorry for the short notice, but the weather looks like it could be good, so Janice, Steph and I thought we might ride out to Outram and maybe kick on to Waihola and back via Brighton. 1 pm at the Chinese gardens as per usual.

A great turnout today, with Nicky, Robin and Tina, Janice, Vern, Mike and myself. Was good to meet Vern, good to see another PX, and a very tidy one too. The weather was surprising warm and sunny, we had an excellent coffee and apple and pear Strudel in Port Chalmers, then a very nice walk to the end of the pier in Aromoana. Good old Dunners, just when you think the winter has arrived, it turns on a day like this.

Anzac day run to Aromoana

We plan a ride to Aromoana on Thursday stopping for a coffee at Careys Bay on the way back. Maybe we could come back via the old Mount Cargill road for the more adventurous.  Meet at the Chinese gardens, 1 pm.

Remembering Graeme Sherburd

We are very sorry to record the passing of Graeme Sherburd, a stalwart of the original Otago Vespa Club. He held a lifetime passion for Vespa, and passed that passion on to his daughter Steph. In his honour, the group would like to meet at the Chinese gardens at 1 pm Wednesday, and ride to Hope and Sons for the funeral at 1:30.

Easter Egg Run 16th March

From Steph:

This Saturday the 16th is the MCR Easter egg run for the Sallies.

It kicks off from Careys bay at 1.30pm and rides to Jervois Street to the Sallies depot.

It’s either gold coin for eggs or bring your own to donate to their food bin.

Would be nice to have a good Italian Vespa contingent amongst all the Jap superbikes and British and American classics that are sure to be there, especially as this is a feel good charity thing.

If keen, we could meet at the Chinese Gardens about 12:45 and ride out to Carey’s bay, or just meet at Carey’s bay, whatever suits people best.
